I am backing up an external drive on macos and it seems to be stuck updating a pdf that has a hash for the filename - probably a mail attachment deep in a mail directory. Unlike a couple of toher files, where VBackup has alerted me to illegal characters, there is no notificaiton. Aside from searching for that file and renaming it (it won't be the only one for sure). where are the Dropbox Backup log files stored? I've looked in ~/Library/Application Support/Dropbox and in /Library/Application Support but I don't see any logs or Backup, only some binary logs for Dropbox. thanks, JulianSolved40Views0likes5CommentsCan't create new folder in Dropbox folder in Mac
Hello, I'm on Macbook running Sequoia 15.4 I can't create a New folder inside the Dropbox folder. As you can see in the screenshot below, the New Folder option is being greyed out. This is so frustrating because I can create a new folder just fine on any other folder outside Dropbox. Fyi, I can create a new folder just fine in Web Dropbox. DropBox was installed with the Admin account. Therefore, it has admin privileges.Solved29Views0likes5CommentsHow do I stop Dropbox from auto moving files to online-only?
Last night, I accidentally caused my disk free space to go below 5GB. Dropbox decided to silently move all files to cloud and deleted all local copies, keeping just "links" (names a cloud+downward arrow icon next to it), WITHOUT notifying me!!! This happened without my knowledge and cause a few other apps that depends on files in dropbox folders to fail. They expect physical files, not dropbox links. It took me some time to find out what had happened. And while I was freeing up disk space, a tug of war between dropbox and me happened: I click the cloud button to download the files, the apps would work for a while, before dropbox would remove them from disk again. As a result of this mess of download, delete, sync, and write, some data was damaged and lost. (A few files have their dropbox history lost as well, they just have "Something went wrong" on dropbox website). This was incredibly frustrating. Dropbox should not be optimizing for my disk space w/o my knowledge or even letting me know. If the disk is running out of my space, it should be my OS warning me, or at least WARN me before pulling something like this. I'm on v200.4.7134 and macOS 12.7.5 How do I turn this "smart" feature off? Afaik, this could happen tomorrow if I accidentally download something big. I know dropbox has the setting "How do you want to store new files?" That's about new files though. Can dropbox be set to NEVER remove local files? (For the sake of completeness, after I realized what dropbox did, I switched this setting to "available offline", but dropbox was still removing files from disk). I can't get one of my devices (MacBookPro) to sync or upload any files. It appears to be hung on syncing some files. I've tried...: switching files from "available offline" to "online-only" and back-- often it refuses to change, and worse, it loses its sync icon-- neither cloud or green check is visible. changing my network back and forth, even though no other apps on any other devices are having network issues stopping the problem file ("Studio Cellos.caf") from syncing--- can't right-click to tell it to stop "Syncing next," as that option's greyed out, and has been for days, as seen in screenshot. Since I can't know for sure its location (a .caf is hidden within a .logic package, and it could be one of many .logic files I have on my dropbox), I try deleting the folder in dropbox I suspected contains that file; but all that did was increase the amount of files it's syncing from 20 to 2307 and the size to 4.6 GB. checking if it's an update issue, but my dropbox app auto-updates, and is at 224.4.4811 looking into clearing the cache, but since I'm using Mac File Provider, the folder named .dropbox.cache doesn’t appear so I can't. repairing the hard links. This increased the amount of files to over 8000. A day later, nothing's changed, it's still at 4.6 GB, though, so it's still stuck. It's seriously hampering my workflow not to have this functioning. Thank you for any assistance. -PeterSolved290Views0likes18CommentsInstalled Dropbox on a new Mac and got "selective sync conflicts" on this and other linked computers
How do I fix the "Selective Sync Conflict" issue, which is now present on three computers: new Mac mini, 2021 MacBook Pro and 2017 iMac? Two days ago, I installed dropbox on new Mac mini, with the intention of synching ALL files/folders on to mini hard drive. Yesterday, I noticed some files had downloaded green circle with white check and most files had empty cloud icon. Many files/folders displayed "Selective Sync Conflict" in the file/folder name, which I have never seen before. I have a huge dropbox account, nearly 4 Gb, with many subfolders. Any advice to separately click (download) file by file would be daunting. I tried to resolve this with chatGPT and Grok. BIGGER MESS. Mac mini. Last night, I erased the Mac mini and re-installed Mac OS from scratch. This am, I reinstalled dropbox. Now, on Mac mini, all dropbox folders (still in the process of synching) are empty cloud (some with down arrow, some with no arrow). None of the files/folders have green circles with white checks), and 90% of folders have "Selective Sync Conflict" label. From the dropbox icon on top menu bar, I had selected Default sync state for new files => Available offline. 2. When I log into the online dropbox account, I similarly see "Selective Sync Conflict" labels on most files/folders. Now, my MBP dropbox folders/files display either a solid green with white check, or a white circle with green check, or a different gray circle cloud icon. Most files indicate "Selective Sync Conflict" where they never did before. 2017 iMac (which has selected folders) shows all gray cloud icons, which I can activate by double clicking =>.green circle with white check. I read that "Selective Sync Conflict" means there are duplicate folders, but I don't see any duplicated folders. I hope I doo not have to repeat corrections on three devices. Haven't looked at my iPhone dropbox, too scared. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.125Views0likes10CommentsI'm trying to back up my external hard drive, but there's no option under my desktop app settings.
Hello! I back up my Mac with Time Machine to an external hard disk that is APFS formatted. When I go to manage backups in the Dropbox desktop app settings, this hard disk is not displayed for a backup, only the Mac. What could be the reason for this problem? Thank you!
