My files are taking up almost double the space than they originally occupied. How can I fix it?

My dropbox was updated to included Dropbox File Provider but this was causing me trouble I couldn't understand, so I opted out of it, and afterwards my storage almost doubled in size, making me go over my limit, and I can't fix it. When I look at the folders I have synced with dropbox, I only have 12GB (my limit is 20GB). But after this whole mess I'm up to 21GB. I tried deleting shared folders, I reinstalled dropbox, I don't understand. I use it in two computers and one cell phone, just for the record. Same folders synced in all of them and it all worked perfectly until yesterday :(

At some point you connected the drive and Dropbox asked if you wanted to back it up, and you said yes. If you don't need the drive backed up, you can delete the backup.

Have you checked your Backups page?

Rich, you may have found out what's wrong. I have a hard drive in that backups page, almost 10GB, which is precisely how much I'm overboard. What do I do?

It worked! Oh, my, thank you so much! you're my hero!
While we are at it, Rich, was it a wise decision to disable File Provider?

Hey mariabitarello, I'm glad to see that you were able to resolve your issue!

Regarding your question about File Provider, it isn't required to use that version of the Dropbox app in order to continue using the app in general.

What it does, is it more deeply integrates with macOS and fixes issues related to opening online-only files in third-party applications.

You can read more about it here.

    I hope this helps!
